A One Day Course on Egg Tempera Painting

Learn the basics of egg tempera, from cracking the egg, to mixing and discovering its many painting techniques.

Egg Tempera is a technique that precedes the use of oil paint. On this course you will learn how to make the paint and prepare the surface to work on. When using egg tempera you have to use a different technique from using of oil paints and this workshop will help you understand why egg tempera paintings are so different from those using oil paint.

Materials: Ready gesso boards are essential for participation in the course.

Please bring these materials with you:

  • Ready gesso boards are essential for participation in the course.
  • Notebooks or any other device they prefer to take notes with.
  • Good sable watercolour brushes (not oil brushes) – as egg tempera is a water based technique.
