Description
Figurative Sculpture
Sculpt a 2/3 scale torso
This course will introduce you to the techniques needed to make a figurative sculpture, working from a life model.
Learn to sculpt a 2/3 scale torso from a life model. The classical cropping of the arms, legs and head enables the sculptor to focus on modelling the forms of the trunk. After spending the initial part of the course capturing gesture and proportion, the slightly larger 2/3 size allows room to model fleshy forms, and distinguish between muscle & bone. Time will be spent looking at how to represent light, shadow and the transitions between them, to create a nuanced likeness of the model & a hierarchy of values that compositionally leads the eye around the piece.
