The Urban Landscape: In the footsteps of Whistler

This plein air painting taster course follows the trail of Whistler, drawing and painting Chelsea Bridge. Discover the history of art and plein air painting in Chelsea including Turner, Pissarro, Sargent, Hopper and Van Gogh’s night cafe.

All levels of experience welcome. Please be prepared for changing schedules as the weather can be unpredictable

IMPORTANT: Please bring a hat and clothing to protect you from cold, rain or sun, as appropriate.

Course Materials

Please remember to bring with you:

  • Layers of clothing as the weather can be surprisingly changeable. Wear old clothes if painting or bring an apron.
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat

 Art materials:

You have an option of drawing or painting in any medium.

If painting, please remember to bring with you:

Palette

Brushes

Paints

Kitchen roll or old cloth rag

Wet wipes (optional useful extra)

Empty jam jars or twin dippers

Thinners (or extra water if doing water colour)

Optional portable stool

 Portable easel – if you need to borrow an easel, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing info@heatherleys.org
