Description

This is a course for both the beginner and for those who have limited experience of painting in oils. We will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the materials and techniques of oil painting, giving you a clear understanding of colour, tone and composition.

Course Materials

Please bring these materials with you:

Jam jar for solvent 

Dippers (double metal holder for mediums)

Palette knife (Winson & Newton No 22)

Palette – ‘Tear off’ palette or a wooden round or rectangle one (must be flat) 

Odourless solvent like W&N Sansodor (for dilution & cleaning brushes)

Kitchen towel / rags 

Hog brushes in a range of sizes (a set can be useful – round or flat, make sure to get a pointy size ‘1’ for drawing)

Smaller synthetic brushes – can be useful

Oils (titanium white, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow, cadmium red, alizarin crimson, cerulean blue, ultramarine blue). Small tubes are fine, Winsor & Newton ‘Winton’ range are good & relatively affordable

canvas / oil paper – about A4 / A3
