Bio

Alexander McQueen Duncan was born in 1973 in rural Oxfordshire, England. He is the son of a painter and a sculptor, so it was no surprise that he pursued a career in art and design. After graduating from Central Saint Martins School of Art, Duncan focused his work on landscape, figure painting, and portraiture. He is currently a tutor in painting and drawing here at the Heatherley School of Fine Art in Chelsea.

In 2007, Duncan was awarded the Royal Society of British Artists’ Rome Scholarship. This scholarship allowed him to spend a period of time studying the ancient Forum and the surrounding rural landscape in Rome. Duncan’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in the United Kingdom and abroad. His paintings “form a diverse and contrasting visual diary moving from representational images to abstract expressions”. Their elements drawn from both direct observation and memorised sensations. His current work gravitates towards the experimental, using wood, metal, mixed media and printmaking.
