Jonathan Farningham in the Studio
Since graduating from the Portrait Diploma Jonathan Farningham has been taking part in ‘In the Studio’.
He tells us:
‘“In the Studio” is an initiative led by Mall Galleries to equip emerging talent with the opportunities and tools to take the next step on their artistic pathways.
I have had an amazing experience visiting artists’ studios, whether that be in a converted warehouse, on the streets of London or in a country stable. I’ve seen how expansive the studio can be and where different artists find their creative centres. Among those I visited were the studios of Philip James, Tina Jenkins, Mark Nader and Tim Benson. To see people in their creative space amongst the materials of making, was a great experience. I’ve had many open conversations about life as an artist and how each artist’s individual practices evolved.
Our experience culminated in a week long group exhibition at The Mall Galleries showcasing our practices and our responses to the studio and its many manifestations.’
