Ceramic Sculpture

Tutor: Tessa Eastman | Thursdays 6pm-9pm | 6 weeks

Learn to create both functional and sculptural ceramic pieces in this hands-on course, ideal for beginners and those wishing to build on existing skills. In a supportive studio environment, you’ll explore clay as a creative material while developing core handbuilding techniques such as slab construction, coiling and press moulding.

You’ll also experiment with surface decoration using coloured slips, oxides, glazing, and mark-making to create texture and expression. Emphasis is placed on developing your design skills and personal interests, with individual guidance and demonstrations provided throughout. Sketchbook work is encouraged.

A wide selection of clays and glazes is provided. Please refer to the materials list below for any additional items you may need to bring. (#TH41)

All materials are provided including a wide range of high firing clays and glazes. Please bring these tools with you when you start the course:

  • Sketchbook / notebook
  • Any pottery tools that you may already own
  • Pottery knife
  • Apron / old shirt – preferably a plastic apron so it can be wiped down. If wearing a fabric apron you must routinely wash this as breathing in silica clay dust is harmful long term.
  • Clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.
