Description
Learning to Draw and Paint
An introductory drawing and painting course intended to build the beginner’s confidence. You will work with pencil, charcoal and oil paint giving you a firm foundation on which to build. Subjects include still life and the clothed model.
The aim of the course is for you to leave feeling encouraged by the progress you have made and excited about exploring drawing and painting in the future.

Materials List
Please bring these materials with you when you start the course:
- Willow charcoal
- Putty rubber and plastic/hard rubber
- Masking Tape
Required after week 4:
Oil paints (artist’s range) 38ml tubes
- Titanium white
- Cadmium yellow
- Alizarin crimson
- French Ultramarine blue
Low odour thinners (can be purchased at Heatherleys)
Please only bring low odour thinners with you or buy them from us. For health & safety reasons we do not allow the use of white spirit or turpentine at Heatherleys.
- A range of brushes between size 1 and 8 (beginners might want to start with hog bristle)
- Large tear-off palette
- Double dippers or two empty jam jars
- Palette knife
- Kitchen roll / old rags
- Apron
- Permanent marker

Please pay your tutor for paper, which will be provided each week. Canvases can be bought in the school shop.
