11 Saturdays

This course is designed for artists at intermediate to advanced level who would like to explore contemporary narratives in painting whether political, domestic, personal or surreal.  You should have a good understanding of drawing and painting but need some structure for identifying, clarifying and working on issues or themes that you find personally engaging.

We will work with varying source material such as individual sketchbooks, photography, drawings and literature to broaden your range of starting points for paintings, as well as occasionally working with a model in the studio. Prominent painters working now and through the twentieth century will serve to elucidate how to nurture various themes in your practice and there will be opportunities to independently develop your own body of work under the guidance of Sarah Jane Moon.
