In June 2026, we were honored to present an exhibition of artworks by the late Sir Alan Parker CBE, the celebrated filmmaker and former Heatherleys student, whose remarkable creative career spanned more than five decades.
This special exhibition offered a rare opportunity to view and acquire works from Parker’s artistic oeuvre. Alongside the exhibition, an online auction of selected works raised funds for Royal Trinity Hospice and Heatherleys.
Regarded as one of Britain’s most accomplished film directors, Alan Parker was the creative force behind landmark films including Bugsy Malone, Midnight Express, Fame, Pink Floyd The Wall, Mississippi Burning, The Commitments, Angela’s Ashes and Evita. His films garnered nineteen BAFTAs, ten Golden Globes and ten Academy Awards, while his contribution to British cinema was recognised with both a CBE and a knighthood.
In 2013 Parker retired from filmmaking in order to concentrate on his first love, painting. He said at the time: “It’s hard to give up your day job after so many years, but to be honest, creating art on your own instead of with a hundred other people, more than compensates.”
In his later years, Parker became a valued member of the Heatherleys community, spending many hours working in the school’s print room.
