The Heatherley School of Fine Art Open Studio is based on the traditional French Atelier system. It gives artists open access to a studio in which they are able to work from a model.
The Open Studio Ticket
The Open Studio ticket offers a flexible opportunity for drawing and painting from the model. We welcome both the beginner and more established artists. You may join at any time of the year and choose your own pattern of attendance. The purchase of an Open Studio ticket entitles you to 10 half day sessions. Tickets are valid for the current academic year and are not transferable. Academic Year 2015-16 tickets expire on Friday 1 July 2016.
In order to gain access into the Open Studio please ensure you have a valid ticket with you.
Sessions last for 2.5 hours and each day consists of a morning session from 10.00am-12.30pm and an afternoon session from 1.30pm to 4.00pm. Any permutation of morning and afternoon sessions is possible.
Open Studio offers you the chance to work from long poses. The nude pose and the portrait pose are maintained over a period of three consecutive weeks. Life sessions take place on Mondays and Wednesdays and portrait sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each three-week pose is set up and supervised by the same tutor and gives the opportunity for six days work on a painting or drawing.
On Fridays the emphasis is on drawing. New techniques and approaches are explored through both short and long poses.

I just wanted to feed back how rewarding my time at your open studio was. It was stimulating and I wish I had more time to paint there .... A special thanks to George for reminding me there are many dimensions to drawing. To Tim who reminded me to trust my instinct. Hilary who reminded me to pay more attention (I work fast), Tony’s easy way and hand measure method. Thank you for making me feel so welcome. Warm regards DP ...... 23 November 2015
