"Goya and his Contemporaries" - Dr Wendy Bird
Dr Wendy Bird has been studying the work of Goya for over forty years, twenty of them in Spain. Her doctoral thesis 'Goya and the Carnivalesque' was presented to the University of Reading. She has taught History of Art at the University of Reading, Birkbeck College and The Open University and has given lectures, run study days and presented seminars on Goya in various institutions including the extra-mural department at Oxford University. She has published a number of articles and book chapters on Goya, Velazquez and optical devices in Madrid, in Britain and abroad. Her book This is Goya, is coming out on 5th October, coinciding with the National Gallery exhibition of Goya's portraits.

This event is free and open to the public but seating is limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
