Susan Wilson - Artist's Talk

24th March | 4.15pm
Free
Wilson will talk about making a life as a painter, beginning in the rackety, seedy, shabby streets of Notting Hill, from a tiny upstairs flat where she first lived and rode an old bike across to St Thomas' Hospital ICU, where she nursed as a Nightingale in the ornate Norman Hartnell uniform, before attending Camberwell School of Art . This was the Notting Hill that Hockney called "Bohemian" when he lived in an adjacent street. It was a world of reggae stars recording at Basing Street Studios and much noise and crime on the streets.

She is represented by Browse & Darby with her most recent show being this past December "Fauna & Flores" and has frequently shown in the RA Summer Show, and in the National Portrait Gallery Award where she won a prize in 1987.

Her portrait of the D Day Weather Forecaster Dr Lawrence Hogben DSO has recently been purchased by the New Zealand Portrait Gallery for their permanent collection.

Currently a member of Faculty at The Royal Drawing School and artist interpreter of the National Portrait Gallery collection-in particular "The Late Shift". She worked on the Portrait Diploma for several years, invited in by Chris Moock.

This event is free and open to the public but seating is limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
