SUMMARY OF ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Part-time courses
Admission to the Open Studio, part-time day and evening courses and summer courses is non selective, subject to student enrolment. The enclosed application form should be completed and returned to the school with the appropriate (non-refundable) fee paid in full.

Full-time courses
Admission to Continuing Studies and Diploma courses is selective and subject to interview.

All students must be over 17 years of age at the time of the commencement of the courses. Heatherley’s looks favourably towards applications from mature students.

Following receipt of a completed application form, supported by an academic reference, the school will offer the appointment date for an interview with a portfolio of work. Interviews are mainly held from early January for the following September. There is not a specific deadline for the submission of application forms.

To secure a place offered following an interview, a non-refundable deposit of 10% of the course fees is require accompanying your completed acceptance form.

Fees must be paid two weeks before commencement of term.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Bursaries

There are a limited number of bursaries available. The Oswald Savage Memorial Bursary to the value of £600 per annum is available to assist a student experiencing financial hardship.

The Worshipful Company of Painter Stainers awards a bursary of £1000 per annum to a student on the Portrait Diploma course. Further details of the above awards may be obtained from the School Bursar.

Diplomas
Heatherley Diplomas are issued on satisfactory completion of the two year courses in Portraiture and Figurative Sculpture.

Certificates
Heatherley Certificates are issued on satisfactory completion of one year's study on the Continuing Studies programme.

Credits
Heatherley credits are designed for use in the American and similar systems. Grades are marked according to the English academic level chosen by the student and this level of assessment is specified on the credit. These levels range from General Certificate of Education through Foundation and first degree to postgraduate levels. Students requiring credits should notify the Director of Studies on joining their course.

Home Office Visas
Those requiring Home Office Student Visas must be registered as attending one of the full-time courses for a minimum of 18 hours per week. We do not charge an overseas premium.

Fee must be paid in full before the school can issue a visa entitlement certificate.

Tutorial/portfolio information
Evening class students can be assisted in preparation for application to vocational courses. In association with evening class tutors, the Director of Studies can plan a one- or two-year programme of study which will ensure that a suitable portfolio is prepared. Tutorials will be given and personal project work initiated.
